RYA Dinghy Sailing Adult Courses

We offer a range of RYA courses and tuition in dinghy sailing, for all adults over the age of 16. These courses are offered between April and September each year. In order to take part in these courses you will need to enrol as a member. At the same time you may want to consider the benefits of full membership.

             Tuition boats

All of our courses are taught by RYA qualified instructors in groups with a maximum ratio of 6 students to each instructor. Teaching takes place on the water and in the classroom and we move between the two depending on the group, the weather conditions and the requirements of the curriculum.

  • Dinghy Level 1 - Start sailing
  • The RYA Level 1: Start Sailing course at Twickenham assumes that the student has not sailed before and is normally conducted in RS Feva's. After you have learnt to rig the boat and received an introduction to the boat's controls, the group will take to the water to experience for the first time what it's like to helm a sailing dinghy alone, under the close supervision of the RYA instructor(s). By the end of the course you should have a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background knowledge, and you will be awarded the RYA Level 1 certificate on successfully completing and understanding the modules of the RYA Level 1 syllabus on the National Sailing Scheme.

  • Dinghy Level 2 - Basic Skills
  • The RYA Level 2: Basic Skills course at Twickenham assumes that the student has previously achieved the RYA Level 1: Start Sailing certificate. This course builds on the skills learned, introduces new ones and supports you along the way to becoming an independent sailor. By the end of the course you should be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing without an instructor on board in light winds. You will be awarded the RYA Level 2 certificate on successfully completing and understanding the modules of the RYA Level 2 syllabus on the National Sailing Scheme.

We can provide buoyancy aids although if you have your own you are welcome to use them. We do not provide wetsuits or protective clothing, and we strongly advise that you acquire your own before starting a course. We can provide advice on what is suitable. You should bring: swimwear (to wear under wetsuit), shoes you are happy to get wet, a towel, a change of clothes, suntan cream, a hat, and a water bottle

Please print this personal information form which we need to have before commencement.
